COAT Constitution and Memorandum of Objects for State, Territory and New Zealand Chapters

COAT is incorporated under the Associations and Incorporations Act (NSW) 1984.

Under the COAT Constitution, the COAT will be constituted by:

The objects of the COAT are set out in clause 2. The basis of membership is that, at the national level, tribunals are members. Tribunals are represented by their presiding officers.

 

State, Territory and New Zealand Chapters

The convenor of a State, Territory or New Zealand Chapter will host the meetings of the particular chapter and will have some information dissemination functions. Convenors are also members of the national COAT executive [clause 10(1)(b)].

As participation in State, Territory and New Zealand Chapters will not require the authority to speak for a tribunal, membership is not limited to presiding officers, but is open to any member of a tribunal that is a member of the Council. Practitioners, academics and other interested persons are also eligible to become members of a chapter [clause 6(2)].

Membership Fees

Membership fees are charged to belong to COAT. At the national level, there is a minimum fee of $100 or $50 per full time member or equivalent of part time members, which ever is the greater. Provision exists for the Executive to reduce or waive entirely membership fees on a case by case basis.
